Mid-century aluminum and vinyl
Ranches and split-levels from the 50s through the 80s often have chalky aluminum siding that looks faded but repaints beautifully with a bonding primer, for far less than replacement.

Local painters, not a call center
Portage is Kalamazoo's southern neighbor and the larger of the two by land, built mostly from the 1950s through the 1990s along Westnedge and Portage Road, with lakes scattered through it: Austin, West, Long, and Gourdneck. It is family subdivisions of ranches, split-levels, and two-stories, newer neighborhoods on the south side, lake homes, and one of the busiest retail corridors in southwest Michigan.
Homes of that age are on their second or third repaint. Aluminum and vinyl siding that has chalked, wood trim that needs caulking, and builder-grade oak kitchens ready for a refresh are the usual list. Lake homes add moisture and shade. Our Kalamazoo crews are in Portage every day, and estimates are free.

Southwest Michigan sits in the snow belt. Sealing every gap in siding and trim before painting is what keeps months of snowmelt from getting behind the coat and lifting it by spring.
Waterfront homes on Austin Lake, West Lake, and Long Lake take extra moisture, wind, and shade. We use flexible, mildew-resistant coatings and stain decks and docks to match.
Good to know
No. Portage is part of our regular southwest Michigan service area, and our crews cover it from Kalamazoo. Estimates are free and there is no travel charge.
Exterior paint needs surface and air temperatures above 50°F to cure, so the season in southwest Michigan runs from about May through October, a little shorter than farther south. Spring fills up first. If you want a summer date, reach out in late winter or early spring. Interior work is scheduled year-round.
Yes. A lot of homes here have original aluminum siding that has chalked and faded. It repaints very well after a proper wash and a bonding primer, and costs far less than replacing it. Vinyl siding can also be painted, with one rule: stay with a color that is the same shade or lighter than the original so the panels do not overheat and warp.
Yes. Lake homes take more wind, moisture, and shade than in-town houses, so we use flexible, mildew-resistant exterior coatings and can stain decks, docks, and porches in the same visit.
Yes. Builder-grade oak refinishes very well. We remove and label the doors and drawer fronts, degrease and sand everything, apply a bonding primer, fill the grain if you want a smooth look, and spray cabinet-grade enamel for a factory-style finish.
Yes. All of Kalamazoo County is inside our regular service area, and our crews are there daily.

"This company is OUTSTANDING. Honestly, I won't have enough space here to express the professionalism of the entire team - all of them. They took on a daunting task of scraping and painting TWO historic bungalows with exteriors that had not seen much love over the years. Picture original wood siding that has baked for over 100 years in the Florida sun. And they wouldn't let me feel bad for all of the peeling paint they removed! Everyone smiled, were fun, pleasant, and most importantly, worked their butts off from early morning until the sun went down. Lastly, I first pursued using a local painter but never received a response. Brothers Colors contacted me immediately and were over for a very reasonable quote in a very short turnaround time. So impressive, from start to finish"
"Patrick and his team were efficient, professional, friendly. Patrick personally assisted on our home interior painting job, and did a thorough walk-through to ensure we were completely satisfied with their work. When one small spot was identified he corrected it himself, and even returned the next day to ensure the final touch-up was to our satisfaction. They did a beautiful job - it was a pleasure working with this company, and we will be a repeat customer for future work."
"Patrick was very professional and his team does exceptional work! I would definitely recommend him to everyone who needs a special touch to add value to their loving home! I will be calling him for all my future house painting projects!"
"I hired this company to paint exterior of my house. They did an excellent job. Prompt, professional and reasonably priced. Knowledgeable painters with attention to detail. Thorough preparation, excellent and responsive communication. Finished quicker than anticipated. Very happy with results"
